About Essential Tech
Essential Tech is an Australian owned managed IT and cyber security provider, operating in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with local accountability and global capability. We’ve been supporting Australian organisations since 2007, helping them protect what they’ve built and build what’s next.
We specialise in professional services firms that hold sensitive client information, including law firms, accounting firms and financial services businesses such as financial planning, wealth and lending. We also support aged care and home care services and not-for-profits. Most of our clients have between 25 and 300 staff.
Yes. Essential Tech is ISO 27001:2022 certified, so the way we protect our own systems and your information is independently audited. We also work with established technology partners, including Microsoft, NinjaOne, Check Point, Keeper and AvePoint. See our partners.
Most support is delivered remotely, so we can look after multi-site organisations. If you need onsite support at a location outside our three cities, we’ll confirm how that works in your proposal.
Services
Business Protect is our core managed service. It brings IT support, cyber security, Microsoft 365 backup and governance together in one service, with SMB1001 certification built in. There are three tiers: Essentials, Enhanced and Elite. We recommend the tier that fits your risk profile and goals.
Small Business Protect is designed for businesses with up to 20 staff. It includes unlimited remote support, managed cyber protection, Microsoft 365 backup and annual director-attested SMB1001 Bronze certification. Business Protect is for larger or more complex organisations and includes SMB1001 Silver or Gold certification.
Every environment is different, so we don’t publish prices. After a discovery call and assessment, we give you a written proposal that sets out exactly what’s included.
Business Protect requires Microsoft 365 Business Premium, E3 with E5 Security, or E5. If you’re on a different plan, we’ll help you plan the change as part of your proposal.
Yes. We can provide the full service, or work alongside an in-house IT person or team to fill gaps, add security and compliance capability, or deliver projects. We agree who is responsible for what before we start.
Yes. We provide business phone systems including Microsoft Teams Phone, Cisco Webex Calling, UCXpress and 3CX, and business internet, so phones, internet and IT can sit with one partner.
Security and compliance
SMB1001 is an Australian cyber security certification standard for small and medium businesses. Essential Tech assesses and certifies against SMB1001. Business Protect includes a certification program as part of onboarding: Silver within 60 days for Essentials, and Gold within 90 days for Enhanced and Elite. Timelines start at formal kickoff and depend on access, licensing, approvals and the certification body.
Essential Eight assessment and uplift is a separate engagement, scoped to your current maturity and target level. It isn’t included in Business Protect.
No. No control or certification can guarantee an incident won’t happen. Certification gives you a structured security baseline and evidence that it’s in place, and our monitoring and response help limit the impact if something does go wrong.
Yes. Business Protect gives you clearer evidence of the controls you have in place, and we help you prepare it for insurers, clients and regulators. Your answers stay your own; we make sure they’re backed by evidence.
Yes. For law firms we support practice management systems including LEAP, Actionstep, Smokeball, Clio and Unity. For all business applications we provide first-line troubleshooting and coordinate escalation with the software vendor. You’ll need an active support agreement with that vendor.
Support and onboarding
Our service desk operates 24/7. Support hours included in your service depend on your tier: Business Protect Essentials includes 8am to 6pm weekdays, and Enhanced and Elite include extended hours from 7am to 7pm weekdays plus Saturday. Enhanced and Elite also include 24×7 managed detection and response.
You contact the service desk through the channels we set up during onboarding. Every request is recorded as a ticket, prioritised, owned and tracked through to an outcome, so nothing gets lost.
Most issues are resolved remotely, which is usually the fastest option. When someone needs to be onsite, we’ll arrange it. Onsite end-user support is included in Business Protect Elite; for other services, onsite work is covered as set out in your agreement and our terms.
We follow a clear process: discover, propose, onboard and improve. Onboarding is planned and documented, so you know what’s happening at each step. We confirm your people, devices, applications and current controls, deploy the agreed security and support, and then move into business as usual with regular strategy reviews.
